The New Jersey Supreme Court has ordered prosecutors in the manslaughter case against former NBA star Jayson Williams to provide to the trial judge all documents relating to a racial slur uttered by an investigator in the case.
The investigator, a former employee of the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office, made the remark before Williams' trial in 2004 but didn't testify at the trial.
Williams was acquitted of aggravated manslaughter in the shooting of hired driver Costas Christofi in 2002, but convicted of trying to cover up the crime. He faces a retrial on a reckless manslaughter count.
Tuesday's Supreme Court order requires prosecutors to turn over the names of those in the room when the remark was made as well as the investigator's complete personnel file.
