Duquesne Tops Nicholls State, 85-62
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) ―
The Duquesne Dukes opened their season with a win against Nicholls State, 85-62, at the A.J. Palumbo Center.
Nicholls State took a 36-33 lead at halftime after overcoming a 10-point deficit.
Down 25-15 with 7:47 left in the first half, Nicholls State went on a 21-8 run over the next seven minutes.
The Colonels produced four steals and took advantage of 12 Duquesne turnovers in the
first half to reclaim the lead for the first time since the opening points of the contest.
But the Dukes spoiled any hopes of an upset after gaining a 62-48 lead with 7:27 left on the clock.
The Dukes' Melquan Bolding scored 25 points and Damian Saunders snagged 19 rebounds.
Nicholls State committed 10 fouls in the first 12 minutes. The Dukes made 9 of 13 free throws in the first half while shooting an even 50 percent (11-for-22) for the game.
