Pirates Celebrate Arnold Palmer's 80th Birthday

NORTH SHORE (KDKA) ― There was a big celebration at PNC Park.

The Pirates helped mark the 80th birthday of golf legend Arnold Palmer Tuesday.

Pirates President Frank Coonelly says the party was the idea of PNC CEO Jim Rohr.

"We're just honored that PNC wanted to have it here and that Arnold wanted to celebrate his 80th birthday here with us at PNC Park," he said.

He got standing ovations when the first took the field and when Jim Nantz of CBS Sports reintroduced him.

The Pirates showed a video presentation that chronicled his hall of fame career which featured 92 global wins and 7 majors.

In keeping with the golf theme, Steve Blass, Paul Maholm and Peter Jacobson attempted to hit a shot into a circle in center field. On the line was $5,000 for Pirate charities. Jacobson got the job done.

PNC Bank donated $1 million to Children's Hospital.

Palmer threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the game.
