New 'Country Of Origin" Labeling To Go Into Effect

(KDKA) New labeling on food is about to tell consumers a lot more about the meat and produce that they can buy.

On Tuesday, the "Country Of Origin" labeling law goes into effect.

The law requires labels for meat, poultry and produce to clearly state what country they came from.

The Allegheny County Health Department says in the event of a food-borne illness, it will help to trace the suspect foods.

Some local consumers say they like the idea of knowing where their food is coming from.

"Because it's a scare, especially when you have kids," said Robin William, of Verona, "you know, you are afraid to feed them stuff from just anywhere."
