PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Twestival,
Twitter's take on a traditional festival, will take place in cities around the world this Thursday, Feb. 12. From Paris to Pittsburgh, members of the Twitter community will get together to hang out and raise money for charity.
A group of nearly 100 from the Twitter community will attend Pittsburgh's take on
Twestival. The event will take place at 7:00 p.m. at
Downey House located in McKees Rocks.
The cost of the event is a $10 charity donation, which comes with one raffle ticket. The charity is
charity: water, a non-profit organization that aims to bring clean drinking water to developing nations. Event goers can buy more raffle tickets with an additional donation of $10.
"The event is really based on a group of Twitterers in Pittsburgh," said Holly Maust, who organized the Pittsburgh event.
Every month, about 40 Twitter members meet for what is called a "tweetup."
"Some cities are doing what we always do--going to a cafe to hang out--but we have a live band and food," said Maust. "I saw a great opportunity to do something different," she said.
Thursday's event will feature food at Downey's House, a live band and a raffle. Raffle prizes include a yearlong membership to the Mattress Factory Museum, Penguins tickets and art by local artists.
Pittsburgh's Twestival, which is "comparable to what other cities are doing," will be streamed live over the Internet.
"We have a really great Twitter community," said Maust. "Our community is very responsive when people need help or when there are events."
