Local Man Gives High School A 2nd Chance

FOREST HILLS (KDKA) ― A local man has decided to go back to high school for one semester and his first day of school was today.

Todd Gallagher started his day like any other high school senior. He packed his bag, his mom packed his lunch and then drove him to Trinity Christian School in Forest Hills.

However, Gallagher is no ordinary student, he's actually 33-years-old.

Gallagher is a writer, originally from Greensburg. He's been on ESPN and wrote a book called "Andy Roddick Beat Me With A Frying Pan."

His focus now is high school and he felt nervous about his first day back.

Gallager has his own locker and he's going to drive himself to school. Although, he will ride the school bus a few days just to get a feel for it.

He's not allowed to be on the soccer team, but he has been working out with them.

"I thought at least my competitive spirit would help me keep up to an extent, but not the case at all. I've been totally worn out," Gallager says.

Gallagher will write another book on his re-do of high school, but he said that's not his motivation.

"I was the worst high school student imaginable. I was kicked out of two schools. I had 1.7 GPA," Gallager said.

So he's putting something to the test.

"My contention always was if I had really tried, I would have done well or at least done a lot better," Gallager said.

School Headmaster Dale McLane said Gallagher is his first 33-year-old senior, but he'll get no special treatment.

"He asked me last week. 'I'm gonna have some trips for business from time to time. What do I do when I'm absent?' Your mother sends a note. That's the way it works," McLane said.

Gallagher has paid his tuition for a semester. Day one, surrounded by kids half his age, seemed to go pretty well.

"Oddly it's been very smooth. Everyone here has been really nice. Which, I think maybe since I was such a jerk, I wasn't anticipating," Gallager said.
