New Outlet Mall Opening In Washington County
WASHINGTON, PA (KDKA) ―
Attention shoppers. You now have a new place to spend your money.
A new outlet shopping center is opening in Washington County, right off of Interstate 79.
This Friday, the 75 stores at the Tanger Outlets will be packed with people ready to make some purchases.
General manager Frank Salucci says employees are putting the finishing touches on the displays and buildings before the millions of visitors arrive, 4.5 million are expected here each year.
"Whatever you're looking for, you should be able to find it," says Salucci. "The best part is you're going to find it at a discount. That's what makes this center unique to this area is - it's a discount center with anywhere from 20 to 50 percent on items."
Big name stores abound, including Gap, Tommy Hilfiger, Banana Republic, Coach, Ann Taylor, Timberland and many more.
The center sits high on a hill above Route 19 overlooking the Meadows Casino.
Now, the store managers say they hope gamblers will spend their winnings at the store.
In addition to tax revenue, the outlets are also generating jobs.
"We've had anywhere from 4,500 workers on site doing construction phases," says Salucci. "Now, when open, we will have between 5,600 employees working."
The grand opening celebration starts when the stores open Friday morning at 9 a.m. and continues through Labor Day with a parade, carnival, music, fireworks and Jerome Bettis signing autographs.
