PENN TOWNSHIP (KDKA) ― Ten children in one family is quite a feat for any parent, but the latest recipients of Roomful Express' 50 Years, 50 Families program did it with patience, joy and love.

Today, Carol and Ed Maholic, of Westmoreland County, count 24 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

"We're all biased about our mothers, but this woman, if you could saint a mother, you would saint this one," said Maholic's son, Lance Maholic.

Carol and Ed raised their 10 children in three bedroom home in Penn Township.

"My husband was a truck driver and made a decent living and they had what they needed and were not needy kids," said Maholic. "Whatever they got they were satisfied with. They were good kids."

"Church, religion, family was their lifestyle," said daughter Christie Kostkas, "and material things didn't matter to them."

After spending years taking care of her 10 children, Maholic was called to take care of her husband after he had a quadruple bypass and other health problems last year.

The children say they have learned about giving from their mother.

The Maholic's say they have lots of hand-me-down furniture. But their children say they just want their parents to be able to enjoy their home after so many years of giving to others.

Now, they will have that with $3,000 in furniture from Roomful Express and the big family could not be happier with the gift.
