50 Years, 50 Families: Leeann Spanos
NEW CASTLE (KDKA) ―
A Lawrence County woman knew her friend had gone through some pretty rough times over the years.
Most recently her husband died and she was left to raise four children alone. So she set out to shed a little light in her friend's life.
That's when Roomful Express came in making her the next recipient of the 50 Years, 50 Families program.
Anna Lucas and Leeann Spanos are life-long friends.
Things have not always been easy for Spanos. She lives here in New Castle with her four children, ranging in age from seven to 18.
"My husband had been sick most of our married life, had a couple of transplants," said Spanos. "This last year, just went down hill, and he passed away in May."
That's when Lucas decided to write a letter to Roomful Express.
"The furniture they have is either 20-years-old or hand-me downs from family and friends," said Lucas. "This is a good family that is always there to help others. They may not have the monetary means, but they will open their home."
Spanos says some of the things she would like to get are a new sofa, furniture for her kids.
And when she was presented with the $3,000 check she was very happy.
"Oh my God, thank you," said Spanos.
