GLASSPORT (KDKA) ― This week's recipients of the Roomful Express - 50 Years, 50 Families program have very busy lives helping those suffering from addiction.

Peggy Heuer doesn't want for much and that's probably because she and her husband, Greg, are too busy doing for others.

Three years ago, the Heuer's sold their home and most of their belongings to start "Your House," a halfway house for addicted and homeless women in Glassport.

It is also where people in recovery gather for alcoholics and narcotics anonymous meetings. The Heuers say they are in recovery themselves.

"When I got sober I decided that I wanted everyone to be as happy as I was in sobriety," said Peggy. "I'm a giver, I'm not a getter. I don't expect anyone to give me anything in return for what I do."

"When God started working in my life I just felt the necessity to be able to reach out and help other people," added Greg.

But Peggy wistfully admits that it would be nice to have a new dining room to replace the 40-year-old, hand-me-down set she received from a neighbor.

"I thought when we sold the house that would be the first thing. I would get the dining room that I wanted for all those years and never got," she said. "But other things crop up. We take girls off the street that have nowhere to go."

The Heuer's give so much that when their daughter heard about the 50 Years 50 Families program she immediately thought to nominate them.

"They don't really want for a lot," said the couple's daughter, Beth Ann Fleshman. "My mom has really been wanting a new dining room and I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to give her something back that they deserve."

Now, armed with a $3,000 check from Roomful Express, Peggy says she will finally be able to get that dining room she's been dreaming of.
