Registration Open For Pittsburgh Marathon

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The Pittsburgh Marathon is back.

Registration is underway for the race which is scheduled for May 3, 2009.

The event, sponsored by Dick's Sporting Goods, will be the 20th running of the marathon. There will also be a Phillips Respironics Half Marathon that day.

The marathon began in 1985 but was disbanded six years ago due to the city's financial situation and the loss of a sponsor.

At one time it was considered one of the top five marathons in the U.S.
