Patrice King Brown Celebrates 30 Years At KDKA
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Pittsburgh television viewers are used to tuning into Patrice King Brown each night at 4, 6 and 11 p.m. Now she's celebrating a major milestone at KDKA: her 30th anniversary!
See Our Special Online Tribute To PatricePatrice started out at KDKA on October 1, 1978 -- beginning her career as the host of Pittsburgh 2Day.
She was joined by a succession of co-hosts, from Ed Malley to Wayne Van Dine to John Wade... and finally Jon Burnett, who joined Patrice for the program's final five years.
"That hour of the day, from 2 to 3 o'clock with Patrice on Pittsburgh 2day, was my favorite hour of the day," said Burnett. "I had to be careful admitting that to my wife, Debbie. It was just one of those anything can happen anything, can be said kind of shows that we just immersed ourselves in and loved every minute of."
When credits rolled on the final show in 1990, Jan Getz, the producer of the first season, was in the audience.
Getz is now the broadcaster in residence at Point Park University.
But she's still good friends with the star of a program which also marked her first plunge into television.
"She communicates through the lens so beautifully, you feel that she's talking to you," said Getz. "Which is, of course, the sign of somebody who's really talented."
Patrice maintained a friendship with Dennis Miller, a national figure who started at KDKA.
But Hollywood is not Patrice's style.
She made the switch from entertainment to news without breaking stride.
The team of Stacy Smith and Patrice King Brown mastered breaking news stories, like the crash of US Air Flight 427, the tragedy of 9/11 and the Que Creek Mine collapse.
Congratulations Patrice on 30 years at KDKA-TV!!
To help celebrate, the KDKA Webteam put together this online tribute!
