50 Years, 50 Families: Laura Suckfiel
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Roomful Express continues to celebrate its 50th year in business by giving away furniture to 50 families in need in our area.
The third recipient is a young woman who has turned her life around, devoted it to God and is working hard to get ahead.
Laura Suckfiel says even though she lives in cramped quarters in her East Pittsburgh apartment, she feels that she is blessed to have her own place and be clean of alcohol and drugs.
"It's just by the grace of God that I'm here today and I didn't get caught up in the whole street lifestyle," said Suckfiel. "I'm just really working on getting that foundation back at home and letting myself know I am worth more than that and I'm willing to work hard to accomplish my goals today."
Suckfiel says she attends Bible studies and church, and works minimum wage at McDonald's, but is in management training and hopes to run her own store someday.
"I think I'm driven to work hard because I want to be successful in life," she added.
Suckfiel's clothes are stacked and hanging on the wall because she has no dresser. She says she could also use new furniture for when she moves into a larger apartment soon.
And she says she was shocked when she learned the value of her furniture gift from Roomful Express, up to $3,000.
"I am so blessed, I'm so excited," she said.
