Kite Event Will Benefit At Risk Children
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
The Pittsburgh non-profit group KidsVoice represents 5,000 abused, neglected, and at-risk children each year.
At the end of this month, kites made by those kids will fill the Carnegie Science Center for a special event.
"The kites are symbol of hope, happy childhood experience, a chance to soar," said Scott Hollander, KidsVoice's Executive Director.
Hollander and his team not only represent abused and neglected kids, they help make services available those kids need to succeed.
Many of them are beaten, or have a parent addicted to drugs.
Many bounce in and out of foster care.
Some of these abused kids will attend an event at the Carnegie Science Center at the end of the month.
Hollander is encouraging the community to make a kite in honor of one of the at risk children in Allegheny County before the April 27.
"Families can come. Children can come," said Hollander. "There will be kite themed activities, crafts, games. The whole idea is to create this rally to let our clients know the community believes in them".
Right now, there are only 100 kites at the Carnegie Science Center.
The "Kites for Kids Community Kite Festival" begins on Saturday, April 26.
