With all the coupons, store sales and more than 10,000 products on the shelves, no wonder most of us think of grocery shopping as a chore.
But not Teri Gault. For her, it's a game.
Her first target was packaged light tuna.
"This is $1.79 normally and we have a coupon and with the sale it comes to 40 cents each for the tuna," she said.
That's a win for Gault and for her shoppers all over the country who join Teri's website,
GroceryGame.com.
How does Teri do it?
She carries loyalty cards from supermarkets coast to coast, searches through grocery store fliers and local newspapers for coupons, matches them up and prints out a custom-made list of advertised sales and unadvertised sales from your area.
What's an unadvertised special?
"I can't tell you. It's a secret but they are there for you," she said.
The best part is you don't have to carry a hundred coupons to the supermarket each week. On this day, Teri shops with 40 coupons and says it's not how many coupons you carry that counts, it's how you use them.
Teri heads for the lettuce - a product you don't want to stock up on but definitely want to cash in on.
"Because it's on sale and we have the coupon to go with it, this gets doubled. It's 55 percent off two which makes it a great deal," she explained.
The regular price is $3.38. With the sale and doubled coupon, it's just $1.14.
Teri's best bargains are usually found at stores that double coupons because when they do, you can end up paying less than what you'd pay at Walmart.
A spin down the aisles and the best game of all BOGOs buy one get one free.
Teri says her shoppers save 60 percent off their grocery bills each week and Teri loves watching her winnings add up - $10 off, $20 off and finally the big payoff instead of $150 Teri is now paying $37.
"If you know how to play the game," Teri said.
