It was a life-changing makeover for a Penn Hills family.
It's been a few weeks since the crew from "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" gave the Slaughter family a brand new home.
Tracy Slaughter sits the front steps of her Grandview Avenue home in disbelief. She explains how it has changed her life.
"Some parts are romantic. Some parts are luxury. Some parts are fun," she tells KDKA. "We had outgrown the house and it was pretty hard to have people come back and forth - that's the biggest change."
And what a change.
Tracy now has room for the children she cares for and the single moms she mentors. A family of seven, they had five children sharing one bathroom and one bedroom.
Now they all have rooms to call their own.
One of her sons has ADHD and the new home has had a profound effect on him. Tracy says he hasn't had as much of a problem in school.
Because of the rules of the television show, Tracy isn't allowed to show us around her home yet.
The Slaughters' priority is their ministry to help others. This home allows the room and the perks to make that easier.
About 600 volunteers gave their time to give back to a family that has given so much.
The big reveal of their home on the show is slated to air January 4.
