Beauty Editor: Gift Idea For Hospital Patients

(KDKA) When you visit someone in the hospital, taking a little gift can help lift their spirits. Giving a gift of some basic grooming supplies is a nice way for the patient to freshen up in between hospital care.

Gift Ideas for Someone in the Hospital

Here are a few suggestions:

Since there is limited space in the room buy travel or smaller size products. Also, try to stay away from too much fragrance.

Pre-moisted (or "wet" as the package will say) face and or face and hand wipes are great for a patient to use who must stay in bed, no water needed for these wipes. A new great product to use without the need of water is Colgate Wisps mini tooth brushes. They are single use per brush.

Small tubes of facial and body lotion will feel good to replace moisture after the use of the wipes. Dryness seems to be a problem when someone is in the hospital. A lip balm is good too.

Baby powder makes a great dry shampoo, just sprinkle some in the roots or around the hairline and brush through the hair to help absorb oils to freshen the hair when a shampoo is not available. Dry shampoo in a can is good to use also, you can buy it most places in the shampoo section of the store. A new brush or comb is a welcome sight too to the patient.

Baby powder can also be used to freshen the body. According to a nurse I spoke to said hospitals do not want the patient wearing deodorant because it interferes with some tests. An example is a mammogram.

An emery board and a tube of hand lotion is a nice quick gift that will come in handy for the patient.

A fun or pretty box of tissues can add some color to the room and be useful too.

A gift of a note pad, pen, note cards and book of stamps so the patient(if feeling well enough) can write thank you notes or wrote a quick note. Easy puzzle books can help pass the time if need be.

A fleece throw is nice because the room can be chilly and it does not take up much room.

A pump bottle of hand sanitizer is nice for the patient's tray so they can wash their hands before they eat.

A friend of mine suggests calling the hospital gift shop if you have a friend or family member in an out of town hospital and you can't get there. They can take your gift to the patient's room.

Small portable items are easy for the patient to use and will also help if the patient needs to be moved another room. Also, hopefully all will go well they won't have to be in long!
