Driver Faces Charges After Leaving Kid On Bus

HIGHLAND PARK (KDKA) ― A local school bus driver is facing charges after he abandoned his bus on the North Side.

Inside the bus was five-year-old Timothy Bottoms who had fallen asleep.

When the boy woke up, he found an adult who then called police.

He was then escorted to his school, Fulton Academy in Highland Park.

"I'm very upset," Yvonne Morgan, the boy's mother, said. "This is not a joke. Anything could have happened to my child – period."

Carlos Torres is accused taking the bus home without checking to see if all of the children were off the bus.

"So he should have been cognizant of the fact that the child didn't get off the bus and before he gets off that bus, his policy and our policy require him to check that bus and evidently that wasn't done," Pittsburgh Schools Police Chief Robert Fadzen said.

Morgan says her son was traumatized and wants the book thrown at Torres.

"His license should be suspended, like taken – everything, like he should never drive a school bus ever again," she said.

The bus company has suspended Torres pending an investigation and police plan to charge him with endangering the welfare of a child.
