Talks Break Off, Seneca Valley Strike Continues

CRANBERRY (KDKA) ―

After meeting for several hours, talks between the Seneca Valley teachers union, school district and state mediator broke off and no agreement was reached.

Teachers rejected the district's latest proposal and as of right now, no new talks have been scheduled.   A spokesman for the district predicts that it's going to be a long strike.   The main sticking points are wages and health-care benefits.

The teachers' strike has entered its second week leaving more than 7,000 students in the district out of the classroom. Many parents are wondering when it will be over and are struggling to adjust and keep their children occupied.

"We have to find things for them to do," Nikki Colton said.  She misses the structure of the school day.

"We were just getting into the routine of studying and reading and that kind of thing so I think we're going to have to start that all over again," she said.
