Seneca Valley Teachers Go Back To Class
(KDKA)
Both teachers and students in the Seneca Valley School District returned to class today following a month-long strike.
A new contract agreement has yet to be reached, but by law the teachers must return so students can get the required 180 days of classroom instruction.
Some parents were talking about the strike as they dropped their kids off for school.
"The kids are what's important, so we don't side with either side," said parent, Rebecca Moore. "We're really hoping they don't strike again."
The strike began back in October when teachers started walking the picket lines.
Now the union and the School Board will enter into mandatory nonbinding arbitration that will lead to a recommendation that either side can accept or reject.
But if contract talks go unresolved there is the possibility of another strike next year.
