Start Of Summer May Mean End Of Schenley HS

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Students in the Pittsburgh Public School District are set to begin their summer vacations this week.

But the end of this school year could also mark the closure of Schenley High School.

School Superintendent Mark Roosevelt has recommended that the building close because of costly maintenance problems.

The School Board is set to vote on the fate of the high school on June 25.

But many students and families say they don't want to see the high school close its doors.

"It had a lot of history to it. They just won state championships in basketball," said Schenley High School graduate William Boyd. "And people like that school, a lot of people that graduated from that school said it was one of the best schools in the city, if not the best."

If the school does close, officials say students will be re-assigned to Reizenstein.
