Mediator To Join Duquesne Teachers' Strike Talks

DUQUESNE (KDKA) ― A negotiation session continues today between Duquesne City School District administrators and members of the teachers' union.

Both sides are meeting with a state-appointed mediator in order to discuss salary issues.

This meeting marks the first face-to-face meeting since teachers hit the picket lines on Tuesday.

Their union says they are the lowest paid teachers in Allegheny County.

Teachers also say they are looking for a 19 percent pay increase, which they say would bring them up to the same level as teachers in the second lowest paid group of teachers in Allegheny County.

But the district says they are only capable of a three percent raise.

Neither side has made comment about the meetings.

Stay with KDKA for the latest details.
