Director Looks To Open Club To Duquesne Students

DUQUESNE (KDKA) ― As the teachers strike in the Duquesne City School District continues, the director of the Duquesne-West Mifflin Boys and Girls Club says she is trying to make arrangements to keep the facility open during the strike.

Right now, officials say it is funded only for an after-school program during the school year.

But Pat Bluett, the director, said there was a flood of children there on Wednesday who were waiting to get in when the doors opened at 2:30 p.m.

She said she is hoping to get enough volunteers to work from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. so the kids have somewhere to go for the duration of the teachers strike.

Stay with KDKA for the latest details.
