Carrick Teacher Accused Of Assaulting Teen

UPPER ST. CLAIR (KDKA) ― Police are investigating a Carrick High School teacher accused of inappropriate behavior with a teenager.

Regis Kirby, 48, of Upper St. Clair, was arrested for an incident that allegedly happened at his Upper St. Clair home last June. He has taught art and jewelry making for the past three years.

According to a police report, several boys visited Kirby's home. In the criminal complaint, Kirby and the boys sat around a backyard campfire drinking alcohol.

The 17-year-old victim recalled being awakened by Kirby who was allegedly making sexual advances toward him. The victim said he was sexually assaulted and accused Kirby of threatening to kill him if he told anyone what happened.

Kirby faces several charges including making terroristic threats, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault, corruption of minors and furnishing liquor to minors.

Some of his former students were shocked to hear about the allegations.

"It's shocking. He seemed like one of the coolest people in the school, like one of the best teachers," Jeremy Stewart, a Carrick graduate, said. "I wouldn't even expect in the wildest dreams that he would do something like that."

The 17-year-old student recently came forward to Upper St. Clair Police.

Kirby went before a district magistrate on Wednesday and his bond was set at $25,000.

A spokeswoman for the district says school officials became aware of the allegations earlier this month. That's when they placed Kirby on a paid suspension.
