Local Students Learn Valuable Lessons About Drinking And Driving
West Mifflin (KDKA) ―
Recent car accidents involving teenagers are leading to a call to further educate teen drivers.
Today, students in West Mifflin got a chance to see that it only takes one drink to make the difference between life and death.
The students were taking part in a DUI simulation exercise that shows just how quickly a driver's response time can be thrown off.
Mike Martin from Pennsylvania's DUI Team uses a vehicle he calls the "safety bug".
It measures how quickly a driver reacts in certain situations.
Martin says even seven-tenths of a second can make a difference in reaction time.
Martin tells KDKA's John Cater, "I'm hoping in the back of their mind, they (the students) are going to remember that drill we had in school last year, even one drink matters."
