Nestle Recalls All Refrigerated Toll House Dough

Investigation Finds Product Sickened 65 People In 29 States With E. coli

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The Toll House cookie is a favorite American treat, but they're not meant to be eaten raw.

"Raw cookie dough obviously has not gone through any process like an oven to get rid of the bacteria and kill them off with heat," explains Dr. Andrew Nowalk from Children's Hospital, "and when it's contaminated with bacteria it's a very, very easy place for them to grow and multiply."

The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating reports of e. coli that they're tracing it to this popular sweet snack.

Nestle is voluntarily recalling it's refrigerated cookie dough products because a number of people have become sick with the bacterial infection, E. coli after they apparently ate it right out of the package.

The FDA says 66 people across 28 states have been affected since March. Twenty-five people were hospitalized. No one has died.

The recall includes refrigerated cookie bar dough, the cookie dough tub and tubes, limited edition cookie dough items, seasonal cookie dough and ultimate cookie bar dough.
