"Handy Switch" Recalled Over Potential Fire Hazard

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― A potential fire hazard has prompted a recall of a popular wireless remote light switch known as the "Handy Switch."

According to the company, the receiver can overheat and start a fire.

Idea Village has received 14 consumer complaints that the device overheated -- including 9 reports that the Handy Switch sparked a fire.

Consumers are advised to unplug the switch immediately and contact Idea Village for either a snap-on protective cap or a replacement produce called "Super Switch."

For more information, consumers can call Idea Village toll-free at 1-888-655-4339 (Monday through Friday from 8am until 9pm ET) or log on to HandySwitchRecall.com.

KDKA Consumer Editor Yvonne Zanos put the Handy Switch to the test last year in her "Does It Really Do That" segments. Click here for more
