NEW WILMINGTON (KDKA) ― The father of an Amish woman who died after being burned in a June fire says he hopes the questions surrounding his daughter's death will now soon be answered.

Ada Kurtz, 25, was severly burned June 14, while heating water in a large pot in the basement of her Lawrence County home. She died of her burns two weeks later.

The woman's father, John Kurtz, said the family tried to get local officials to investigate the tragedy, but, they pretty much felt it was Ada's fault.

Today, however, a Coraopolis company which supplied at least some of the kerosene to the New Wilmington service station where the woman's husband bought kerosene in early June issued a voluntary recall, saying the kerosene could have been tainted with gasoline, because of a malfunctioning valve at its terminal.

"My daughter has been around kerosene all of her life and was never careless with it," he said. Kurtz said he was aware of other Amish in the New Wilmington area who purchased what they thought was kerosene at the same service station, and they've had problems.

The Amish use kerosene for heating and lighting.

The company that issued the kerosene recall - Pittsburgh Terminals Corp. - says it is offering full refunds to customers who return the product to where they purchased it.
