Onorato Plans Response To Assessments Ruling

(KDKA) Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato says he is planning to spell out the county's response to the court's ruling on property assessments in the next few days.

On Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the county's use of a base-year assessment system is unconstitutional and unfair to property owners with lower values.

However, Onorato says he believes the ruling leaves open several options, without necessarily having to conduct a new assessment.

The state supreme court has made a ruling about Allegheny County, but not about the counties around Allegheny County and that is where Onorato says he sees tremendous unfairness.
