Four Council Members Walk Out During Vote

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Four Pittsburgh City Council members got up and left part of today's council meeting during a vote.

Council President Doug Shields and council members William Peduto, Ricky Burgess and Bruce Kraus walked out of the meeting before a vote on the bill that implied conflict of interest.

The members say they were just following orders from the city solicitor's office.

They were advised to not discuss or vote on a $10,000 legal bill stemming from a controversial electronic billboard downtown.

Councilman Jim Motnik chaired the meeting in Shields' absence.

The then four-member council voted 3-1 against paying the bill, which means it is tabled unless a majority of council votes to bring it back for consideration.

The four members returned after that vote.
