Obama: We Need To Harness American Ingenuity
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Speaking at an economic summit at Carnegie Mellon University this morning, Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama told guests that for our nation to succeed in a global economy, we need to harness American ingenuity.
Wrapping up his three-week "Change That Works For You" tour, Obama hosted the summit, designed to look at ways to ensure America's competitiveness in a global economy.
Before launching a panel discussion with some of the nation's top industry and economic leaders participating in the event, Obama told the invitation-only crowd: "For America to succeed, we'll have to join together to harness the energy and ingenuity of the American people. "
Obama said we need to focus our efforts on five key areas: energy, education, health care, infrastructure, and innovation.
He also stressed the importance of finding alternative energy sources.
"If we remain dependent on oil from dictators, we'll endanger our security, imperil our planet, pay more at the pump, and sit on the sidelines while the jobs of the future are created abroad. "
