McCain, Palin Rally Supporters In Washington Co.

WASHINGTON, PA (KDKA) ― In another sign that western Pennsylvania is a key part of a Presidential victory, Sen. John McCain brought his campaign to Washington County today with a message of change.

"I'm running for President to make government stand on your side and not in your way," said McCain. "I've spent the last few months looking for a running mate who can help me shake up Washington and stop the corruption and clean it up."

Thousands lined up this afternoon for a rally and the chance to see and hear Sen. McCain, and his new running mate, Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin.

"It's always safer in politics to just avoid risk and to go along with the status quo, but I didn't get into government to do the safe and easy things," said Gov. Palin.

The crowd was excited for the chance to see the see the candidates.

"I like McCain, but I wasn't really excited about McCain until yesterday morning when he … when Sarah came on as VP," said Judy Brown, of Upper St. Clair.

Sporting a "Hot Chick Republican" button, Dana Toland, of Washington County, cited McCain's military experience.

"I think he's the one with the most experience and best suited for defending our country and everything that we believe in," said Toland.

Despite some labor-organized supporters of Democratic Presidential nominee, Sen. Barack Obama, outside Consol Energy Park, inside it was all about McCain. And the supporters who lined up to get in had no doubt about their ticket.

"I'm really excited about the opportunity for McCain and Palin to change this country, and I'm happy to be part of it here in Pennsylvania," added Chuck Fluharty, of Cross Creek.

They say they are also looking forward to getting to klnow vice-presidential candidate, Gov. Palin, in the weeks to Election Day.

"It looks like she will fit the bill real well," said Gary Tomb, of Moon Township.

"She has the conservative credentials and such - but just a surprise - I expected him to pick someone with a little more experience. I guess we'll learn more about her as time goes on."
