Pennsylvanians Go To The Polls In Three Weeks
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Sometimes elections sneak up on you.
Pennsylvanians will go to the polls in just three weeks from Tuesday.
For residents in Pittsburgh, it's the chance to elect a new mayor for the next four years or keep the current one.
But here's a problem for the challengers.
KDKA Political Editor Jon Delano: "Do you have any idea who's running against Luke Ravenstahl for mayor this year?"
"I heard that there are a couple of people, but I can't think of their names right now. Sorry," Arion Dudley of Squirrel Hill said.
"I'm voting for Franco's son," Rob Freeman of the Hill District said. "Luke is cool -- thorough and all -- but Franco Harris made that immaculate reception, man. I've got to go with his son, man, you know what I'm saying, for real."
It's true - Franco Dok Harris, son of the Steelers' great, is on the ballot, along with Kevin Acklin, an Oakland lawyer who has no famous dad.
Both challengers are working hard to get better known, but it's hard to get attention when the incumbent attracts all the spotlights.
The mayor's race is not the only race this year.
Pennsylvanians will elect judges to three statewide courts, including the state Supreme Court where Judge Jack Panella, a Democrat, is running against Judge Joan Orie Melvin, a Republican, for a vacant seat.
Besides statewide judges voters will also elect county judges, county officials, school directors, and municipal leaders, depending on where you live.
