PA Budget Still A Question Mark

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Pennsylvania could enter into the next fiscal year tomorrow without a budget.

That is, if Gov. Ed Rendell and Republican congressional leaders do not come to a compromise today.

Our news partners at the Post-Gazette reported that Rendell said it could take up to two additional months to strike an acceptable balance between the two sides.

This uncertainty has many state workers concerned about receiving payment in the coming days. If there is no budget on the books, state workers may face a slew of blank pay checks.

Rendell and the Democrats have proposed a $28.8 billion spending plan for the 2009-2010 fiscal year, while the Republicans prefer a $27.3 alternate budget.

Pennsylvania legislators are hoping to find a way to lessen the state's $3.2 billion deficit with the passage of the new budget.
