Some Veterans Call For Metcalfe's Resignation

CRANBERRY (KDKA) ― Most people who know him would hardly think Pennsylvania Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, an army veteran himself, is anti-veteran.

But that's the way a national veterans political action group is portraying him because of some controversial remarks in which he called certain veterans traitors.

Those remarks are now making national news and in his first television interview on the matter Metcalfe came out swinging.

"I'm not going to resign at the call of this leftist group that's funded by George Soros and Moveon.org," Metcalfe told KDKA political editor Jon Delano.

It began when Metcalfe sent an email to colleagues in Harrisburg warning them to not support Operation Free, a veterans group seeking energy independence through clean energy policies.

Metcalfe, of Cranberry, called the veterans "traitors to the oath he or she took to defend the constitution of our great nation," adding "Remember Benedict Arnold."

Now, VoteVets.Org is calling for Metcalfe's resignation with a local radio ad.

But the conservative legislator who keeps the Holy Bible on his desk is not backing down.

"I'm a veteran who stands with the majority of veterans who stands there to protect the Constitution and uphold that document that we swore an oath to protect," he says.

Metcalfe calls it global warming leftist propaganda and says some of President Obama's energy policies are unconstitutional.

"Any veteran that lends their name to this type of a movement that's directly attacking the Constitution is doing a great disservice to every veteran that's raised their hand, that's laid their life on the line, that's given their life for this great nation and for the founding documentation, the U.S. Constitution," he adds.

As of Friday afternoon, Metcalfe says he's only had four calls to his office asking him to resign.
