Move over Dan Onorato and Jack Wagner.
Joe Hoeffel says you both are too conservative to be the Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania governor next year.
"Two good men and two good Democrats, but they are more conservative socially than I am," he said.
Delano: "Pro-life?"
Hoeffel: "They are."
Now a candidate for governor, former Congressman and now Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Hoeffel is unabashed about being a liberal Democrat.
"I think our party should be socially liberal and fiscally responsible. That's what I've tried to be in my 35 years of public life," Hoeffel said. "I think that's the right profile for the majority of voters in our state, and that's where I like to see the Democrats."
Unlike Onorato and Wagner, Hoeffel is pro-choice.
"Women should be trusted to make their own decisions regarding reproductive freedom," he said.
Delano: "Pro-choice?"
Hoeffel: "I am pro-choice. I think we need to fight discrimination where we see it."
And that means gay rights, including the right of gays to marry in Pennsylvania.
"I support marriage equality. I feel very strongly that we're all children of God. We're all equals in the eyes of God, and I think our laws need to reflect that equality," Hoeffel said.
On other issues, Hoeffel may be more like the two western Pennsylvania candidates, but he stresses that government is a partner, not an enemy.
"While jobs are created in the private sector and we've got to make sure we attract jobs and have a good business climate in Pennsylvania, government's got an active role to play in creating that opportunity, and I embrace that," he said.
