Clinton Announces Plan To Keep Jobs In U.S.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Democratic Presidential hopeful Senator Hillary Clinton made a return visit to the area today to attend an economic summit.

Clinton hosted the 21st Century Economic Summit with local government officials today on the South Side. It was held at the IBEW Conference Center, and was not open to the public.

Along with Governor Ed Rendell, County Executive Dan Onorato and Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, two panels met to discuss the emerging economy, the future of manufacturing and job growth both in Pennsylvania and across the country.

As part of that, Sen. Clinton announced her new insourcing agenda, which will give incentives and tax credits to companies creating jobs right here in America, in hopes of encouraging U.S. companies not to send jobs overseas.

"I believe our government should get out of the business of rewarding companies for moving jobs off our shores and get back to rewarding companies that create high wage jobs with good benefits right here in Pennsylvania, in America," said Sen. Clinton.

"First when I'm President, we will turn our upside down tax code right side up," she added during the summit. "We'll close those tax loopholes, keeping jobs in America and preventing companies from avoiding about $15 billion in taxes each year. "

She also said that the program will include funding for research & development and manufacturing. Also, she specifically has pledged $20 million a year to create jobs and to manufacture clean energy technologies right here in Pennsylvania.

This morning, Senator Clinton toured the Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse (PLSG), which provides capital investments and customized company formation and business growth services to the region's life sciences enterprises.

Stay with KDKA for much more on Senator Clinton's visit.
