Ex-Pa. Sen. Fumo Convicted On 137 Counts

PHILADELPHIA (AP) ― A jury in Philadelphia has convicted powerful former state Sen. Vincent Fumo on 137 corruption counts, including charges of conspiracy to defraud the Pennsylvania Senate.

The jury found Fumo guilty Monday of all counts related to defrauding the Senate.

The 65-year-old Philadelphia Democrat is charged with defrauding the senate, a nonprofit and a museum of more than $3.5 million, and destroying e-mail evidence.

The verdict comes after a five-month trial that began Oct. 22 and featured more than 100 witnesses and 1,300 exhibits.

Fumo and former aide Ruth Arnao were also found guilty of conspiracy to defraud Citizens' Alliance, a nonprofit.
