Sen. Obama Talks Economy, Energy In Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (KDKA) ― Democratic Presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama was in Youngstown, Ohio, this morning talking about two topics on nearly every American's mind -- energy and the economy.

Obama delivered a very fiery speech in a Youngstown suburb – a blue collar area with unemployment problems.

It's the type of voter that Obama needs to shore up, if he has any chance of winning the White House in November.

It is the type of voter who strongly supported Hillary Clinton in the Ohio primary.

Judging by the reaction that Senator Obama received, he may have won over some Clinton converts.

"Our economy is in turmoil. I don't need to tell the people of Youngstown. With more and more families struggling with lost jobs, lost health care and lost pensions, rising costs of everything from college tuition to groceries to gas at the pump, we know this election could be the most important from our life time," said Obama. "Because I think that without a doubt, our addiction to foreign oil is one of the most urgent threats we've ever faced. No only is it causing gas prices that wipe out your paycheck and strain businesses. But it is costing jobs."

Senator Obama answered about half a dozen questions from the audience.

Then he shook hands and headed off to Cleveland for another campaign stop.

Clearly Ohio and Pennsylvania will be critical in the upcoming November election.
