Sen. John McCain campaigned in Wisconsin today while Sen. Barack Obama was in Ohio.
In an exclusive interview, Obama spoke by satellite with KDKA Political Editor John Delano.
Sen. Barack Obama says, as a Democrat, he can lead a Democratic Congress.
"What the American people need at a moment when we got huge problems here at home -- we've also got huge problems abroad with two wars -- what we need is a president who can mobilize Congress to actually get something done," he said.
Obama says John McCain is ignoring real issues through negative attacks linking him to terrorists like William Ayers.
"They are now trying to suggest that somehow, because of what this guy did 40 years ago when I was 8 years old, that somehow I'm sympathetic to this stuff when I've completely condemned it," Obama said. "These kind of distractions are not going to work."
While ahead statewide, Obama says he understands why polls show him running even in this region.
"A lot of voters in Western Pennsylvania have been bombarded with negative ads -- that's all that John McCain's been running right now -- I think it's important for people to hear directly from me," he said. "I believe in the Second Amendment so lawful gun owners have nothing to worry about from my administration and I'm a strong believer that the middle class gets tax cuts."
Obama will be campaigning in the Philadelphia area on Saturday but still no plans yet to hit Pittsburgh.
