Pittsburgh Zoo's Tiger Cub Gets A Name

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium's tiger cub may not have an "Achy-Breaky Heart," but he has been named after the country crooner who made the song famous.

Officials with the Zoo say their tiger cub, born back on Mother's Day, has been named "Billy Ray."

According to the Zoo, the donors who picked the name "Billy Ray" did it in honor of a deceased family member who was a fan of singer Billy Ray Cyrus.

The cub is being hand-raised because his mother wouldn't nurse him after his birth. He now weighs approximately 30 pounds and is eating more than three pounds of meat each day, officials say.

The Zoo says they plan to now wean Billy Ray from his playmates of the human variety, which will mark his next milestone. They also say they are trying to find the cub a playmate until he is old enough to be on his own.
