New Giraffes Make Debut At Zoo

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Two new, very tall residents have checked into the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium.

The Zoo is now the new home of two baby Masai giraffes, Mel and Buddy.

Both giraffes are 1-year-old and were born at the Los Angeles Zoo. They arrived in Pittsburgh back in June and have since been getting accustomed to their new home.

The giraffes already stand over nine feet tall and weigh between 400 to 500 pounds, but experts say they will grow to more then 18-feet tall and some 3,000 pounds as adults.

Mel and Buddy formally met the public on September 1st, and now they will follow a normal schedule of being on exhibit everyday.
