Baby Sea Lion Debuts At Pittsburgh Zoo

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― As the Pens brought the Stanley Cup home, the Pittsburgh Zoo welcomed its first sea lion pup into the world.

Zoey gave birth to a female pup on June 13 – the first such birth at the Pittsburgh Zoo.

And Tuesday, the yet-to-be-named pup made her debut at the PPG Aquarium.

The baby is being called everything from "adorable" to "cute" to "fuzzy as a peach."

Zoo officials said the mother and daughter duo have bonded extremely well so far.

"It accidentally fell into the water as it was playing," the Zoo's Dr. Barbara Baker said. "What we saw mom do immediately … was grab the pup and put it back onto the beach."

Zoey will have to teach her little pup how to swim, likely in the next 30 days, zoo officials said.
