Marathon Organizers Hold Sign Up Event

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) ― It may be snowy outside but preparations are already underway for Pittsburgh's marathon, which will be held in May.

Sunday, officials celebrated the marathon's return after a 6 year hiatus with a sign-up event at the David Lawrence Convention Center.

So far over 700 people are already registered for the "2009 Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon".

Organizers are expecting a huge turnout.

The city last hosted the race in 2003 when 6,000 runners took part.

The race was first held in 1985 with about 2,500 runners.

It was canceled in 2004 because the city could not afford it when the sponsor, UPMC, dropped out.

Dick's Sporting Goods has agreed to sponsor the race for three years.
