More than 200 dead deer piled up in a man's yard are creating a huge stink in North Buffalo Township.
Randy Good has a contract with PennDOT to remove dead deer from roads in Armstrong, Beaver, Lawrence, Washington and Westmoreland counties.
When he collects the deer for PennDOT, he normally takes them to a state-approved landfill, but he ran into trouble recently.
"I have three trucks. Usually the one truck when we get busy like this just makes dump runs, taking the overflow back and forth," Good said. "That truck broke down so I was down to two trucks and it is just phenomenally busy right now."
He says the landfill being closed on the weekends further complicated matters.
"In order to keep up with PennDOT demand I had to stockpile them somewhere," he said. "In the backyard is where they had to go."
Good says after calling for a week or a week and half, a dumpster was finally delivered Monday. He expects to fill it up twice to get rid of all the deer.
Meantime, his neighbors can't stand the smell.
"It smells like dead rotting animals and I mean, you open the door and it hits you in the face. We hate to let the dog out because you know you have to open that door," Sue Bryan said.
"It gets so bad - you don't just smell it - you can taste it," Dallas Bryan said.
They have called the township, health department, the Game Commission and more, but say they couldn't get anyone to help.
Good says it could take from a week or two to get it all cleaned up.
"I don't want them there any more than you guys do or anybody else does," he said. "That's my backyard. I live here."
