Two Female Elephants Move To Pittsburgh Zoo's ICC

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― They are two of the newest and also largest residents in the Pittsburgh area.

Bette and Kallie, African elephants, have taken up residence at the International Conservation Center in Somerset County, which is run by the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium.

The elephants have been at the center for about 10 days. They were brought to this area because the Philadelphia zoo needed time and money to build a new exhibit and the Pittsburgh Zoo is known for having one of the best programs for African elephants in the country.

There is also a possibility that the two females may be able to breed with Jackson, the 11,500 pound African Bull Elephant, already at the center.

The place where the elephants are living is off limits to the general public.

No decision has been made as to how long the elephants will live at the ICC in Somerset.

They could eventually be taken back to Philadelphia, or got to another zoo that is looking for female elephants.
