Family Seeks Justice After Dog Is Killed In Attack
NORTH HUNTINGDON TWP. (KDKA) ―
A Westmoreland County family says they want justice after their dog was killed, while allegedly being attacked by another dog in their neighborhood.
The family said it happened on Saturday in their yard in North Huntingdon Township.
They tell KDKA that they had their dog, Toby, on a leash when a German Shepherd from the neighborhood suddenly appeared.
"All of a sudden the dog lunged at my dog, grabbed him around the middle of his stomach. It seemed like and just kept tugging him and shaking him like a rag doll," said the dog's owner, Carol Sandor.
"They tried to resuscitate him with a shock and he was dead. After that I washed my hands because they were all bloody," said Sandor.
She says she later discovered the injuries she sustained during the attack and her attempt to fend of the much larger dog.
Sandor says she had bite marks on her fingers and on her leg. She also had to be given rabies shots.
"In each of my hips, I got two shots in each of my hips until they used it all up and then they had to make sure my heart and everything was ok.
The Sandors say it is also painful to think about what could have happened and what could happen in the future if swift action isn't taken.
"Our grandchildren are coming to live with us next week and they're going to be here about four weeks," said James Sandor. "They loved Toby, our little dog, and if one of them were out walking him, which they do in our front yard, if the dog was loose, then we could really have a serious case here."
Local animal control officer Gary Hoffman would not identify the owner of the dog that allegedly attacked Toby.
He says he is still sorting out charges and liability. However, he did say the dog has been quarantined.
