Police Investigate Apparent Dog Fighting Operation

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The investigation continues today after the discovery of an apparent dog fighting operation Wednesday night in the city's Lincoln-Lemington neighborhood.

According to officials, investigators are in the process of obtaining arrest warrants in the case.

Authorities say police removed a total of 12 pit bulls from a home on Clifford Street.

Police said one of the dogs was found dead in a closet. The others were alive, but emaciated.

Officials at the scene said bloodstains were also found on the floor in the basement as well as bullet-proof vests and a gun.

Security cameras could be seen on the home and three large dog cages were in the backyard of the home.

Police say an anonymous tip led them to the residence.

"Based on a citizen's complaint, anonymous, there was a lot of dogs barking in the area and they thought that there may be some dog fighting going on here," said Sgt. Tom Huerbin, of the Pittsburgh Police Department. "We responded to the scene and found some evidence of what we believe to have been dog fighting and just the number of animals that were here."

Meanwhile, neighbors say they are worried after the discovery.

"It makes it scary for the neighborhood especially when children are running around," said neighbor Maggie Marshman.
