Two Black Labs Rescued From Cliff In Derry
DERRY (KDKA) ―
Two black labs are hanging out at the Action for Animals shelter in Derry Tuesday after being rescued from a steep cliff.
The dogs somehow made their way down a steep 40-foot cliff at Hanson Stone Quarry mining company. The ledge where the dogs were stuck was about 300 feet from the ground.
East Derry firefighters had to use a rope to repel down to the dogs and bring them back to safety.
Steep conditions, combined with high temperatures and a threat of rattlesnakes made it difficult for firefighters to reach the dogs, but they say it was worth it.
One firefighter had to be treated for heat exhaustion.
The dogs are around two years old. Shelter officials are hoping to reunite them with their owner or find them a new home together.
They were affectionately named "Cliff" and "Hanger" because they were found on a cliff and were hanging on for dear life, shelter officials said.
If you are interested in adopting the dogs, you can stop at the shelter in Latrobe.
The address of Action for Animals Humane Society is 386 State Route 217 in Latrobe. The phone number is 724-539-2544.
