Grant Aims To Help Struggling Pet Owners

GREENSBURG (KDKA) ― With the economy struggling, some families are having a tough time taking care of their pets. But with a new grant, the Westmoreland County Humane Society may be able to provide some help.

The organization received a $2,000 grant from the National Humane Society.

Today alone, the Westmoreland County Humane Society, took in 11 dogs that were surrendered because the owner couldn't afford to take care of them.

The grant money will help people with minor medical bills for their pets, such as getting them spayed or neutered.

Humane officials say when the economy hits hard times, surrenders increase while donations tend to go down.
